KEYS Kids Ambassador
Each year the KEYS Program is honored to select a child to be our KEYS Kids Ambassador! This amazing child is the official "face of KEYS kids", representing KEYS kids throughout the country at special events throughout the year.
Introducing our 2017 KEYS Kids Ambassador ~ Cameron!!
We are SO excited to officially announce our 2017 KEYS Kids Ambassador is Cameron from Kentucky! Cameron aka "Cam the Man" is a 6 year hepatoblastoma cancer survivor, organ donor recipient and true superhero! Along with raising awareness of the amazing superheroes battling cancer this year, it is Cam's family's hope that his story will help encourage others to consider signing up to be an organ donor too! We are SO thrilled for Cam to be the handsome face of our KEYS kids representing superheroes like him across the country this year! #CamtheManrocks#superhero#keyskidsambassador#organdonorrecipient#itsallaboutthesmiles#keysprogram
The 2015-16 KEYS Kids Ambassador is Owen
The KEYS Program is thrilled to announce that Owen Lee has been selected to be their KEYS Kids Ambassador for 2015!
“We are so honored that Owen will be the face of our KEYS kids this year” said Colleen Bennett, KEYS Executive Director and Founder. “At KEYS, many of the kids we serve are battling cancer, but many are also kids with various challenges, disabilities, injuries and illnesses. Our past ambassadors have all been pediatric cancer patients, so this year we wanted to change things up a bit in order to raise awareness of the thousands of kids who face medical challenges of all forms each day. We couldn’t think of a better superhero to be the face of KEYS kids than our buddy Owen!”
Owen was diagnosed with Tetrasomy 18p in January 2005, just days before his first birthday. This is an extremely rare condition. When Owen was diagnosed, there were less than 100 people in the world with this condition. His parents were told he would not walk or talk and they should just take him home and love him.
Owen is proof that the love of family and friends is sometimes the best medicine. This month, Owen celebrates his 11th birthday and his family’s love has enabled Owen to not only walk and talk, but also attend school and live life to the fullest. He loves going to the races and paling around with his brothers Tucker and Jett. This past summer, Owen and his family participated in the KEYS Program’s Smile Experience family respite program. Owen was all smiles and loved flagging for his brother Tucker while he took laps on the race track!
Although Owen faces tremendous challenges each day, the thing that inspires us most about Owen are his strength, compassion and amazing smile. No matter what the day brings for him, he always eagerly shares a BIG hug and a BIG smile with everyone he meets. He teaches all of us to embrace each day with love and a smile!
