"As the concert comes to a close, and the house lights come up, I make my way to the lobby in hopes that I may thank those as they leave for coming and sharing this special night with us.  As I go through the doors to the lobby, I quickly realize the audience hasn’t left the building, almost everyone has gathered in the lobby.  There is love all around, as I see people hugging each other, laughing together, and trying to keep this moment alive for as long as they can.  A young woman, who I do not know, runs to me and asks if she can hug me!  As we hug, she thanks me and tells me she is a cancer survivor. She has been so moved by tonight’s experience she wants to join our group as a volunteer so she can help bring hope to others like herself. WOW!"~Colleen Bennett, KEYS Founder

2016 Stuff the Bus Toy Drive to Benefit KEYS!

We are excited to announce the KEYS Program has been selected to be one of the charities benefiting from the 2016 Stuff the Bus Toy Drive! The KEYS Program will deliver the toys it receives from this wonderful event to families who have a child battling cancer here in Central New York.

"We are so grateful to Roser Communications, all of the wonderful sponsors and everyone who donates to Stuff the Bus each year", said Colleen Bennett, KEYS Founder and Executive Director. Thanks to our generous community we are able to deliver music, hope and smiles to these brave superheroes and their siblings during a time when they could use some extra love and smiles the most!"

Utica Comet's Mascot "Audie" Making a Visit to the Smile Experience!

The KEYS Program is excited to announce the Utica Comet's awesome and amazing mascot "Audie" will be making an appearance at the KEYS Program's Smile Experience family respite day August 28th!

Hailing from exoplanet HD 189733b, a deep blue gas planet 63 light years away from our planet Earth, Audie unexplainably appeared in Utica, New York, which he now calls his home. Audie can be found skipping, hopping and skating through The AUD at lightening speeds, patrolling the ice for unwanted extraterrestrials and building spaceships out of broken hockey sticks. Audie’s home planet reaches daily temperatures of 2,000 degrees Fahrenheit, so he welcomes the cold winters of Utica, NY, and likes skating across the ice as often as possible.

In his spare time, Audie enjoys searching for his brothers and sisters at the Utica Zoo, messing with The AUD light system to create shooting stars, watching E.T., Buzz Lightyear and reruns of Elf, time traveling, stealing chicken riggies from Aqua Vino and surprising local Comets kids and fans at their birthday parties or events.

We are thrilled to have Audie join us to help deliver BIG smiles to our KEYS kids!

It's All About the Smiles at the KEYS Program's "Smile Experience"!

Smiles were abound at the KEYS Program's summer Smile & Drive Experience held on Saturday, August 22nd at the Oswego County Quarter Midget Club Track in Fulton, NY!

This unique family experience is one of our special outreach programs providing a special family respite day at the track for families who have been impacted by pediatric cancer and serious illnesses. The day is full of family-fun and smiles, with each child suiting up and taking laps in one of our special USAC Quarter Midgets on the track and while their family and fellow KEYS families cheer them on in the stands!

All of our events include music and our Smile Experience is no exception!  Our amazing music therapist, Cindy Legwalia, created a fun and interactive drum circle so kids could move, groove, drum and smile along with Cindy!

We believe that cancer does not define a child, so any mention of illness stayed outside the gate of the track. Each child was free to just be the amazing, giggling, silly kid they are, enjoying a special Smile Experience with their family!

Special thanks to everyone at the Oswego County Quarter Midget Club who generously donated use of their track facility in order to help us create BIG smiles!

This unique family experience is one of our special outreach programs providing a special family respite day at the track for families who have been impacted by pediatric cancer and serious illnesses. Family fun and over-the-top silliness are guaranteed to make the whole family smile!  Our KEYS kids and their siblings get to suit up and drive one of our USAC Quarter Midget race cars on the race track. We have a corporate-style hospitality tent with refreshments, great music and fun for the whole family too. We believe that cancer does not define a child, so any mention of illness stays outside the gates of all of our Smile Experience events so each child can be the amazing, giggling, silly kid they are, enjoying a special Smile Experience with their family!

This year's event is EXTRA special as we will are hosting our first ever "Miles of Smiles" Track Walk immediately following the Smile Experience. We encourage walkers to come to the walk a little early so they can cheer on these amazing superheroes!

Our Smile Experience is provided at no cost the families we serve. If you or a family you know has been impacted by cancer and would like to participate, contact us at 315-363-6446 or keysprogram@msn.com!

Special thanks to everyone at the Oswego County Quarter Midget Club who generously donate use of their track facility in order to create BIG smiles!

KEYS 9th Annual "Michael Sowich Memorial Golf Outing for KEYS Kids" Being Held in September to Honor Pediatric Cancer Awareness Month!

Our KEYS Kids Ambassador Hope Inslee was our special guest at the golf outing these past few years, enjoying a day away from her cancer treatments surrounded by the love of those who supported her in her journey. On October 16, 2014, Hope lost her battle with cancer at the age of 15, but her beautiful smile and full of life spirit lives on in all of our hearts!

 "Smile Experience" with Umphrey's McGee!

Members of the band Umphrey's McGee with Arthur and the KEYS family!

On February 20th, 2015, the KEYS Program partnered with the band Umphrey’s McGee and the Landmark Theatre in Syracuse to provide a special "Smile Experience" for one of our KEYS families who recently lost a child to cancer. The Smile Experience included a private Meet ’n Greet with the band during their sound check, followed by dinner and the concert. The band even provide VIP passes for Arthur to go backstage after the concert too!

“We are so thankful to Joel Cummins and the great guys in the band Umphrey’s McGee for working with us to provide this special respite experience for Arthur and his family,” said KEYS Founder Colleen Bennett. “Arthur plays guitar and loves music, so this was very special for him. The guys in the band made him feel so welcome and truly a part of the band. We can't thank them enough!"

The KEYS Program’s Smile Experience is a special respite program for families who have been impacted by cancer. The goal of the program is to provide families a break from the difficult challenges they face everyday so they can spend time doing something fun together as a family. Our philosophy is that cancer does not define a child so all thoughts and mention of illness stays outside the doors of all of our events. Every family who participates is just a wonderful, fun, loving family having an amazing smile experience together!

THANK YOU to Joel Cummins and the entire Umphrey's McGee band and crew for making Arthur feel so welcome! Special thanks to the Landmark Theatre in Syracuse for your hospitality, Charley Bielby for helping to coordinate this and to our awesome KEYS Smile Crew, Alex Finn, Mike and Leah Bennett, for helping to make it so special for Arthur and his family! ♥ #It's all about the smiles!

The KEYS Program has a dream of delivering its  music care packages to every child who is diagnosed with cancer by the year 2018 so that music can accompany each child from the time they are diagnosed and throughout every stage of their battle.

Thanks to the support of the Tony Stewart Foundation, the KEYS Program is one smile closer to that dream! ♥

Paulie’s Super Siblings Officially Launches!

On July 17, 2014, superhero Paul “Paulie” Morley earned his angel wings after a valiant fight against ALL T-Cell Leukemia just a few months before his 3rd birthday. We are honored to announce that the KEYS Program and Paulie’s parents have partnered to create Paulie’s Super Siblings! This new program will provide assistance to the behind-the-scenes heroes, the siblings of kids battling cancer, who often feel lonely, left out and are in need of extra love, support and smiles.

“We are very happy to add this much needed program to our roster of patient support programs at KEYS,” said Colleen Bennett, KEYS Program Founder. “Paulie’s parents wanted to somehow provide support to siblings in memory of Paulie. They initially started researching creating Paulie’s Fight Foundation, but after talking more this past year, we thought it would be wonderful to combine forces and simply add Paulie’s Super Siblings to the roster of patient support programs we provide at the KEYS Program. Since Paulie is my cousin, and KEYS was created after the loss of my Dad to cancer, it is fitting we keep things in the family and that we add Paulie’s Super Siblings to our outreach.  I know that would make my Dad and my little buddy Paulie smile!”

Angela Schuyler, Paulie’s mother, had the vision for Paulie’s Super Siblings and will be heading up the program. “Paulie’s Super Siblings is Angela’s idea and vision”, said Bennett.” She knows first-hand the struggles and needs of families who have a child battling cancer. Her strength, passion and drive to help families who are going through the same difficult journey is truly inspiring. She has some wonderful ideas and events planned to bring big smiles to these special superheroes!”

On October 16, 2014 our KEYS Kids Ambassador and dear friend, 15 year old Hope Inslee, earned her angel wings after a courageous battle with cancer. Hope served as the representative and voice for KEYS kids across the country since May of 2013. Despite a difficult battle with cancer, Hope always had a smile to share with everyone she met. Hope's strength, positive attitude and amazing smile were an inspiration to all of us and all who knew her!

2014 Hearts of Hope CD Release!

On September 11, 2014, the KEYS Program's Founder Colleen Bennett, had the honor of visiting the 2014-15 Hearts of Hope Class at Vernon-Verona-Sherrill High School!  Each school year, students in this cutting-edge Entertainment Industry Class create, record and produce original songs for the KEYS Program's teens who are battling cancer.

At the end of the school year, the students host a "Hearts of Hope Benefit Concert" where they share their music with the community and some of our KEYS families both locally, and those tuning-in from children's hospitals across the US.  Proceeds from the concert enable the teens to donate CDs /albums to the KEYS Program for the teens it serves who are battling cancer.

Above is a "selfie" the class took with Colleen, along with their amazing teachers, Eileen Hubbard and Donna Schonewetter.  Also pictured is the new BEAUTIFUL 2014 Hearts of Hope CD presented to Colleen that was created, recorded, produced and designed by the 2014 Hearts of Hope Class.

Stay tuned for updates on the original music and happenings in the EI/Hearts of Hope class throughout the year here on the KEYS webpage, Facebook page or the VVS EI/Hearts of Hope class Twitter page @dreambigandhope!

A special message from KEYS Founders Colleen & David Bennett ~

"Our beautiful cousin and superhero, Paulie Morley, went to heaven on July 17, 2014. We are so very humbled and grateful for all of the love, prayers, support and SMILES sent to Paulie, his Mom, Dad and sister Haiden, and our entire family throughout Paulie's journey. Thank you for sharing your hearts to ensure Paulie left this world surrounded by the LOVE and SMILES he so freely and generously gave to others!"

It's all about the smiles!

As of May 29th, 2014 we have collected 1,164 SMILES!!

We have to realize that we can become someone’s miracle. Look around at who God has put in your life. You may be their miracle. ~Osteen

Miracles come in many forms. Sometimes they are big, life-changing events in our lives, but often they are small everyday moments that often don’t even notice. For parents like our KEYS parents, just seeing our musicians walk through their hospital room door with love, music and smiles is just the miracle they need to help get through the day.  If you can, please consider making a $20 smile donation to the KEYS Program to help deliver these everyday miracles to kids battling cancer.

You can help us reach our goal of 6,000 Smiles by participating in the Smile-o-Meter Challenge! For every 150 smiles donated we will take a box off the       Smile-o-Meter to reveal our 2014-15 KEYS Kids Ambassador!

You can participate by simply making a donation to KEYS of $20 or more. For every $20 you donate you create another SMILE!

On Saturday, April 19th at the 12 North Sports Bar, family and friends of Scott Shepardson got together for the first annual Scott Shepardson Softball Tournament! Games began at 8am with food, raffles and live music, all to celebrate the life of this amazing man and local musician who tragically lost his life in a car accident this winter.

Proceeds benefitted the KEYS Program so his spirit and love of music will live on through the hearts of our KEYS kids!

Thank you to Jo Anne Rotach and Fran Roberts for putting this very special event together. A tally of the number of smiles that were raised will be announced soon!

If you were not able to attend, but would like to make a donation on-line, just go to the DONATE button the right of this page to make a tax-deductible donation.  Be sure to note it is in memory of Scott.
