The Children's Guild Foundation Grant Award

KEYS is happy to announce it is bringing even more music therapy and smiles to children with disabilities in Western New York this year, thanks to a $5,000 grant from The Children’s Guild Foundation!

“We are so excited to partner with The Children’s Guild Foundation this year to bring music and smiles to our KEYS kiddos that we serve in Western New York” said KEYS Founder Colleen Bennett. “Like The Children’s Guild Foundation, KEYS is dedicated to meeting the ongoing challenges that affect children with special needs and their families. Thanks to the support of The Children’s Guild Foundation, KEYS will be able to to bring music therapy and big smiles to the children that KEYS serves in Western New York.”

According to the American Music Therapy Association, music therapy is the clinical and evidence-based use of music interventions to accomplish individualized goals within a therapeutic relationship by a credentialed professional who has completed an approved music therapy program. KEYS has 12 board certified music therapists on is crew that help provide services for the families KEYS serves. Although music therapy is much like other therapies, it is not yet covered by most insurance companies. Many of the families that KEYS serves cannot afford to pay for music therapy services due to the incredible financial hardship they face due to their

child’s illness or disability. KEYS is on a mission to make music therapy accessible and affordable for the amazing children it serves and is honored to have the support of The Children’s Guild Foundation on this important mission of smiles. The Children’s Guild Foundation’s grant award will help KEYS reach its goal of providing 1,000 free music therapy sessions for children in 8 counties in Western New York this coming year. Now that’s a lot of smiles!

For 114 years, The Children’s Guild Foundation has been dedicated to improving the lives of children and young adults with special needs in Western New York through its grant funding and advocacy work focused within healthcare, education, therapeutic recreation, and research.  They provide financial grants and serve as advocates for 501c3 nonprofit organizations serving children with special needs throughout eight counites in Western New York.
